Motor School Racing – Porsche 997 Cup Australian GT, Round 3

Gloomy looking skies and surprisingly cool temperatures greeted us on arrival into Townsville, however any concern over the weather quickly evaporated the following day with warm and sunny conditions. Contrasting track temperatures over the weekend made things interesting but in the end almost perfect conditions prevailed for each race.

The pace of the car was very promising in practice with consistently quick lap times across all sessions. This was carried into Qualifying as we went within a whisker of snatching Pole Position. Michael and I were still very pleased with the result knowing that with our pace another Podium finish was on the cards. Despite being caught up in an unfortunate racing incident early in Race 1 we fought back to finish second in class and set ourselves up for a very positive weekend.

Michael started Race 2 and stormed through the field to build a healthy early lead and put us in a great position for the remainder of the race. After pit stops were completed I came out in front of main championship rival Brendan Cook and with clean air was able to find some rhythm and establish a 15 second gap to cross the line in first. Race 3 started with a tight battle as we fought traffic to move through the field. Despite being held up for large parts of the race we managed to secure another important race victory. The weekend’s strong results ensured a valuable points haul as we climbed back into the championship lead powering on towards back-to-back challenge titles.
