Motor School Racing – Porsche 997 Cup
Production Sports, Queensland V8 Supercar Round

Over the weekend, we took the Motor School Porsche 911 to Queensland Raceway to compete in the Production Sports category supporting the V8 Supercars. On Friday, we only had one practice and one qualifying session so utilising the track time was going to be crucial. We started practice one with sunny weather and dry conditions. We went out and had to fight traffic but were able to do the fastest time of the Production Sports series. This result was a big surprise with a talented field of drivers and some high powered competition including a Dodge Viper GT3, Mosler GT3 and even a Ferrari F430 GT3.

Leading into qualifying, expectations were high with the pace shown in practice one. After going over a few things with my data analysis guru Simon Wills, we knew where the extra time was to be found. We got into qualifying but were faced with road blocks from the slower cars and even an oil slick which from another vehicle blowing up its engine. In saying that we were still able to achieve 2nd overall  and 1st in class in qualifying.

On Saturday heading in to race 1, it was perfect Queensland weather. With our starting position in P2 and with the limited warm up time we were given before race start, I knew it was crucial to get a good start and take the advantage I knew I would have cold tyre pace over the other cars. The green flag went and we were off.  I was pushing hard and was able to take the lead between turns 1 and 2. From taking the lead I put my head down and went for it and over 12 laps was able to achieve a 12 second lead and fastest time of the race and new Productions Sports lap record of a 1:14.4. With the race all done expectations were high for race 2. Unfortunately in race 2 while on the grid we had a component failure which meant we could not start. We worked through the night to get the car all fixed up and ready to head into race 3 on Sunday.

Track temps were going to be a little higher on Sunday with our race later in the day which was going to work in our favour. We started the race from last position in 36th due to missing race 2. We got underway and were working through the field, getting 3-4 cars a corner under brakes then taking them down under acceleration. I worked very hard and slowly was making progress. By the final lap I was able to over-take the Mosler GT3 and take third position for the race. It was a massive effort, but we well rewarded with a great result.

We also had our media partner at the track on Friday and click through so I can take you for a high speed lap of QR! Click on the image below to open the Video in Vimeo on click the followng link:

Once again my sincere thanks for your ongoing support and for being part of the team. It is great to be able to share the success! Our next stop is Sydney Motorsport Park, I can’t wait to get back behind the wheel. Bring it on!!!
